Bosworth Toller Old English Dictionary

Hi, you can call me Rose. Welcome to my new blog!

I have been a practicing heathen for a handful of years, and consider myself a Fyrnsidere. This blog is my space to share with you my thoughts on modern praxis inspired by the reconstruction work of many of my dear friends in the Fyrnsidu community. My focus will be on practical modern praxis with links to historical reconstruction materials for those who would like to dig deeper. We’ll also spend some time debunking common pagan misinformation. It is my hope that this blog will be helpful for those who may be struggling to turn their research into more.

Inclusivity

This blog is intended to be an inclusive space. I will do my best to make it as welcoming a place as I can for anyone who is interested in the practice of semi-eclectic Anglo-Saxon-based heathenry. This blog endorses Declaration 127 and the Declaration of Deeds. Your ability to practice heathenry is not determined by your race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.

Modern Praxis

It’s important to remember that our faith today is a new practice. While our ancestors’ knowledge of the gods is an excellent place to begin while building our own understandings of the divine, it’s not cement around our praxis. How you express your heathenry can and will change over time. How you perceive individual deities will probably also change. Just because something was done in the past by you, other modern heathens, or the ancients doesn’t mean that’s the way it has to continue. Living, breathing religions change over time, especially in our own everyday lives.

Sources & Personal Beliefs

As a reconstructionist first, I rely on textual and archeological evidence where it is available and comparative sources when forming the historical basis for my praxis. But let’s face it, there’s just a lot we don’t know about historical heathens. Sometimes we have to fill in the gaps with what logically or intuitively makes the most sense. In addition to citing my sources where I can, I will also do my best to inform you when something I say is purely extrapolation or even gut feeling. Our own intuition is a valuable tool when building our practices. However, it’s very important when communicating with others that we share when something is supported by evidence vs our own UPG (Unverified Personal Gnosis).
